Terms of Service
Effective 2026-10-16 · Version terms-2026-10-16
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the ThingsToDoCity website at thingstodocity.com (the "Service"). The Service is operated by Things To Do Worldwide Inc. ("ThingsToDoCity", "we", "us" or "our"). By using the Service, including as a guest without an account, or by creating an account, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who can use the Service
Browsing the Service is open to all ages and needs no account. Side Quests are general-audience experiences that adults and families can enjoy together, and you can take part as a guest without an account. Children should take part with a parent or guardian, who can record the family's visits on the adult's own device or with the adult's own eligible account. To create an account, you must be at least 18 years old, and you will be asked to confirm this when you sign up. We rely on that confirmation and do not verify ages. We do not offer accounts or profiles for children.
If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the involvement and permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms for you. If you are 18 or older, by using the Service you confirm that you can form a binding contract with us and are not barred from using the Service under applicable law.
2. Your account
To create an account you provide an email address and a password, and you confirm your email address by following the link we send you. You can also sign in with a one-time link sent to your email address. You do not need an account to browse the Service or to take part in Side Quests as a guest.
You agree to:
- give us an email address you control;
- keep your password confidential and not share your account;
- tell us promptly at support@thingstodocity.com if you believe someone else has accessed your account.
You are responsible for activity under your account that you carry out or allow, or that results from your not keeping your password confidential. To protect the Service from automated abuse, some pages use a bot check provided by Cloudflare Turnstile.
3. What the Service provides
ThingsToDoCity helps you discover events and experiences. With an account you can:
- Save events and experiences to your account;
- mark that you are going to an event ("I'm Going").
"I'm Going" is a personal plan stored in your ThingsToDoCity account. It is not an RSVP, a reservation or a ticket, and it is not shared with the event organizer.
With or without an account, you can also take part in Side Quests, as described in section 4.
The Service is currently free to use. You cannot buy tickets or make payments through ThingsToDoCity. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will present any additional terms before you use them.
4. Side Quests
Side Quests are free, self-guided ways to explore places in your city, such as the places taking part in Open House Chicago 2026. You can take part as a guest or with an account.
ThingsToDoCity creates and runs Side Quests. We are responsible for the Side Quest itself, meaning its content, rules and features on the Service, as described in these Terms. The places featured in a Side Quest, and any event they are part of, are run by others, not by ThingsToDoCity (see section 5).
- Check-ins are self-reported. When you visit a place, you can mark it with "Mark as Visited". We do not verify your location or that you visited. Please mark only places you have actually visited.
- Side Quests are for adults and families to enjoy together. Children should take part with a parent or guardian, who records the visits.
- Check-ins can be recorded only on a Side Quest's event days, based on the event's local time, and only at places that are open that day according to the organizer's published information. We do not check the exact opening hours within a day, so please follow each place's posted hours.
- Completing a Side Quest adds a collectible to My Adventures automatically. For Open House Chicago 2026, checking in at any three different participating places adds the Chicago Explorer collectible. Later check-ins are added to your adventure history; the collectible stays.
- Collectibles are a personal record of what you explored. They have no monetary value, cannot be sold, exchanged or transferred, and do not entitle you to any prize, discount, reward, access or other benefit.
- Guest progress is linked to the browser you used and can become unavailable, for example if you clear your cookies or switch browsers or devices, as explained in our Privacy Policy. Completed adventures remain viewable after an event ends, subject to the retention periods in our Privacy Policy.
- We may decline, correct or remove check-ins that do not follow these Terms, and we may change, pause or end a Side Quest or change its places or rules at any time.
Taking part in a Side Quest does not give you any right to enter a place. Places set their own rules, hours and entry requirements, which may include identification, security screening, waivers, footwear, age limits or accessibility limits, and they may change these or close without notice. Follow each place's rules and staff instructions, and take care of your own safety when travelling to and visiting places.
5. Event information
Most events and experiences on ThingsToDoCity are organized by others and are listed so you can discover them. We prepare these listings from information published by organizers and other official sources. Dates, times, venues, prices, age restrictions and other details are set by the organizer and can change or be cancelled without notice to us. Before you attend or buy tickets, please check the details with the organizer. We are not responsible for an organizer's events, venues, policies or changes.
For Side Quests, place names, addresses, dates, hours, access and participation details are based on information the organizer has made publicly available, and can change. Check the organizer's official information before you go.
ThingsToDoCity is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the organizers of the events and places we feature unless we clearly say so. In particular, ThingsToDoCity is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the Chicago Architecture Center or Open House Chicago, and we have no special access to Open House Chicago sites.
6. Tickets and third-party websites
Some listings link to an organizer's or official ticketing partner's website. Tickets are sold by the organizer, not by ThingsToDoCity. Any purchase you make there is between you and that seller, under their terms and privacy policy. We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their content, products, services or practices.
7. Emails
We send emails that are necessary to operate your account, such as email verification, sign-in links, password resets and important account or security notices. These are part of the Service and cannot be turned off while you have an account.
When you sign up, or later on your Account page, you may tell us you would like ThingsToDoCity recommendations, events and updates by email if we start sending them. This is optional and is not required to use the Service. We do not send promotional emails at this time. You can change your choice at any time on your Account page.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break any law or anyone else's rights while using the Service;
- access or try to access accounts, data or areas of the Service you are not authorized to use;
- interfere with, overload or disrupt the Service, or bypass its security or bot checks;
- scrape, copy or harvest the Service or its content by automated means, except as allowed by our robots.txt file for search engines;
- create accounts by automated means or with false information;
- record Side Quest check-ins for places you did not visit, or record check-ins by automated means;
- use the Service to send spam or to harass anyone;
- reverse engineer the Service, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
9. Content and intellectual property
The Service, including its design, text, graphics, logos and software, is owned by ThingsToDoCity or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Event names, images and trademarks may belong to event organizers or other owners and are used with permission or as otherwise allowed by law. Names of events, organizers and places are used only to identify them.
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable permission to use the Service for your own non-commercial purposes in line with these Terms. You may share links to pages on the Service.
10. Ending your account
You can ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing support@thingstodocity.com from the email address on your account. Our Privacy Policy explains what is deleted, including what happens to your Side Quest progress, and what may temporarily remain in service providers' logs and backups.
We may suspend or close your account, or limit your access to the Service, if you break these Terms, if your use creates risk or legal exposure for us or others, or if we stop offering the Service. Where reasonable, we will tell you by email.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that event, Side Quest or place information will be accurate, complete or current.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ThingsToDoCity and its officers, employees and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data or goodwill, arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms, and will not be liable for events, tickets, venues, places or websites operated by others.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) US $100 or (b) the total fees you paid us for the Service during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for:
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- gross negligence or willful misconduct;
- death or personal injury caused by negligence;
- any other matter for which applicable law, including consumer protection law, does not allow liability to be limited or excluded.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these limitations may not apply to you.
13. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless ThingsToDoCity from claims, losses and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and you and ThingsToDoCity consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. This does not take away any protection you have under the mandatory consumer protection laws of the place where you live, to the extent those laws apply.
Before filing a claim, please contact us at support@thingstodocity.com so we can try to resolve it informally.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page with a new effective date. If a change is material, we will give reasonable notice before it takes effect, for example by a notice on the Service or by email to account holders. Continuing to use the Service after the updated Terms take effect means you accept them.
16. General
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
